Color. It surrounds us here on the coast of Maine. We find ourselves inspired to transform the nature that encompasses our slice of the world into woven art. Last fall, when Yankee Magazine approached us for ideas on how we might help them mark their 90th anniversary, we were immediately drawn to the vibrant hues that define the New England experience at that time of year: rich reds, bittersweet oranges, gold yellows, burgundy and fading greens with the horizontal sky leading eyes ever upward.
Inspired by the Wild Beauty of Autumn in Maine
Every art form has to ask the question—how to transform an elusive feeling into a material object. The fiber arts have their own limitations and possibilities. Employing our hand-dyed yarns, dyed tendrils of wool roving, and the skillful eye of our hand weavers, we have created the woven embodiment of that ineffable feeling one gets immersed in the color shower that is Autumn in New England.
The Secret Within Each Throw
There is a secret embedded in this thoroughly useable, artistically crafted throw blanket: there are 90 color changes—one for each year that Yankee Magazine has been capturing the essence of New England!
